Whitehall Lane Winery is a family owned estate vineyard and winery in the heart of Napa Valley's Rutherford Appellation. This Rutherford Bench location is an area acclaimed to be the finest viticultural region in the world. Early Napa Valley settlers were drawn to the exceptional soils and ideal climate, planting grape vines at the Whitehall Lane site well before the turn of the century.

The winery's history began in 1979 when two brothers bought the 26 acre vineyard on Whitehall Lane and directed their early efforts successfully to Merlot, Cabernet and Chardonnay. In 1988, foreign investors purchased the winery, attempting to produce a more diverse portfolio of wines and with plans to push production from a few thousand cases to more than 50,000 cases each year.

In 1993, the Leonardini Family of San Francisco bought the Whitehall Lane Estate from foreign ownership. Under the guidance of the Leonardini Family, new equipment was brought in, a new barrel program was instituted and they began sourcing the finest vineyards. Whitehall Lane now owns more than 100 acres of Napa Valley vineyards that produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc. The balance of the fruit comes from small local growers who produce top quality fruit.

The five premium vineyards that the winery owns are the cornerstone on which the wines are made and include the Estate Vineyard, Bommarito Vineyard and Elmwood Vineyard in the Rutherford Appellation, the Leonardini Vineyard in St. Helena and the Oak Glen Vineyard in Napa. The Estate Vineyard is 25 acres of "Rutherford Dust" offering beautiful Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay grapes. The Elmwood Vineyard is the newest property acquisition and produces fine Rutherford Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. The Bommarito Vineyard was recently ripped out and will be replanted in the spring of 2000 to Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. The Leonardini Vineyard is 14 acres of very gravely soil that yields powerful Cabernet Sauvignon fruit and elegant yet intense Merlot grapes that are used to make the "Leonardini Vineyard" vineyard-designated wines. The Oak Glen Vineyard, located outside the southern boundary of the Stags Leap District, was recently replanted and will yield Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc beginning with Harvest 2000.

In its short history, Whitehall Lane has developed into a world-class winery. The efforts of the Leonardini Family and the winery staff are evident through the recent run of accolades from the wine press and also in the ultra-premium quality of the wines.
