Truchard Vineyards is a small, family owned winery located in the Carneros region of the Napa Valley. Owned by Tony and Jo Ann Truchard, the winery produced its first vintage in 1989, although the vineyard has been producing exceptional grapes for 20 years. All wines are produced entirely from the Truchard Estate Vineyard.

History. The winegrowing tradition in the Truchard family dates back to 1887. Two brothers, Father Anthony Marie and Jean Marie (Tony's grandfather) - near Lyon in France- planted a vineyard and built a winery in Texas. The winery, like many in the United States, did not survive Prohibition.
Tony grew up on the family farm in Texas, and called on his farming and engineering expertise to develop his first vineyard back in 1974 (even while practicing as a medical doctor). His intuition and attention to detail paid off as the vineyard quickly developed a reputation as one of the outstanding vineyards in Carneros due to selling to some of the top wineries in the Napa Valley. After observing the success other wineries were having with the Truchard fruit, Tony decided to start his own winery using only fruit from his ranch.

The Truchard Vineyard. The complex geology of the 167 contiguous acres of vineyard has a variety of soils derived from volcanic ash, sandstone, shale, clay, limestone, and lava rock. In addition, there are varied sun exposures in the hilly vineyard. The combination of soil and sun, representing the microclimate for the vine, has been carefully chosen for each grape variety grown on the ranch. Such is the wealth of microclimates that the Truchard ranch has been growing 6 grape varietals with proven success. Multiple times (1994, 1996, & 1997), a Truchard wine was selected as one of the Wine Spectators top 100 wines in the world!
Truchard Vineyards currently has 170 acres of producing vines. They have purchased the adjacent property which will be planted over a three year time frame. Thirty acres of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Merlot were planted in 1997 and thirty-five will be planted in 1998 with the remaining thirty acres to be planted in 1999. The family is excited about the new vineyard expansion.
