Vineyard is located in the Oakville District of Napa Valley. The property was
purchased by Ren & Marilyn Harris in 1976 and was planted to Chardonnay, Pinot
Noir, Chenin Blanc and White Reisling at that time. The Harris’ purchased Paradigm
intent on growing premium Bordeaux red varieties and have totally replanted the
Three clones of Cabernet Sauvignon are planted on thirty-two of Paradigm’s acres
along with three clones of Merlot on eighteen acres and one clone each of Cabernet
Franc and Zinfandel divide the balance. Over five miles of drain lines underlay
the Paradigm Vineyard, and this together with a unique trellis and drip irrigation
system enable the vineyard owners to control the vine growth insuring optimum
The vines are carefully pruned each year during the winter months, and the grape
shoots and bunches tenderly positioned
during the growing season to produce an evenly ripened crop at harvest. The grapes
are hand picked into half ton bins at harvest time and taken to the winery immediately.
The vineyard is managed by John Silva, who has worked for the family since he
arrived from Portugal in 1970. Louis Lopez, whose father once worked at Paradigm,
is the crew foreman. Fernando Diaz and Pedro Martinez round out the vineyard crew.
