Costello Vineyards is a complete family wine
estate in the Napa Valley, in the cool Oak Knoll district of the Lower Valley,
renowned for premium Chardonnay.
The Family moved to Napa Valley in 1978 and planted the 40 acre Chardonnay vineyard.
In the same year they built their home and winery in the vineyard.
Costello Vineyards' founder, John Costello, grew up in the Midwest and graduated
from Kansas University. In 1961 he migrated to California at which time he rekindled
the farming interest of his youth with the purchase of citrus and avocado groves.
In 1968 John met and married Mieke, a native of Holland. She lived in Paris and
Lausanne for a number of years, first as a student, then as a professional interpreter.
Mieke's love of wine and John's interest in an agricultural product that goes
the full route from soil to table, with an identity, ultimately brought them to
develop their Napa Valley property.
Rounding the family staff are sons Greg and Paul. Greg joined the family wine
business in 1984 after graduating from Annapolis Naval Academy and a tour of duty
as a naval officer. Greg manages sales. Paul, who graduated from NYU in 1994,
handles New York Sales.
The winery is fully equipped including automatic bottling and temperature controlled
barrel rooms. Costello Vineyards crushes about 175 tons of Estate Grown Chardonnay
each year for a production of 12000 cases.
