Vineyards is located on a landmark Napa Valley Estate established in 1878 by San
Francisco stained glass merchant Fritz Rosenbaum. Rosenbaum first vinted wines
in 1879 with grapes grown on the
estate vineyard located at the base of Spring Mountain. The winery was named St.
Clement by previous owner Dr. William Casey. A deep sense of time and place are
contained in the name. St. Clement, the patron saint of mariners, was the name
given to a small Chesapeake Bay Island by early English settlers. Historic family
property on the island inspired the label.
Sapporo Ltd., est. 1876, purchased St.Clement Vineyards in 1987 and intends to
carefully preserve the sense of history and year to year consistency of St.Clement
By keeping production small and ensuring the continuity and quality of St.Clement's
vineyard sources, the highest standards of wine making are achieved. The winery
produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot and a Meritage-style
Winemaker Dennis Johns is a Napa Valley native and has been making the wines at
St. Clement since 1980. Johns attributes his wine making success to his long-standing
friendships with St.Clement growers, as well as being able to hand tend each individual
lot of St.Clement wine.
