A document dating back to AD 804 tells of how wine has been made at Capezzana for the last 1200 years; such is the suitability of the Carmignano area for winemaking. The Contini Bonacossi family have given new lustre to the wines of this splendid, traditional Tuscan DOC.The Capezzana estate has about 90 hectares planted to vine, dedicated above all to the classic vines of Carmignano: Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. Obviously, Carmignano is the flagship wine, both in its standard and its Riserva version, including the Riserva cru Villa di Trefiano. Careful work in the vineyards and expert vinification lead to the creation of wines of notable complexity, softness and ageing potential. The company also produces a young Carmignano called Barco Reale, a vino da tavola called Ghiaie della Furba and a classic Tuscan Vin Santo, whose traditions are firmly rooted in this model estate. Wine production reaches about 500,000 bottles per year, and prices represent very good value indeed.
